5 Uses for LED Strip Lighting in the Home

LED strip lighting is a very versatile and creative way of adding light to your interior design. It has long been used by interior designers for businesses and hotels and now it's easily available for home use too.

The strip lighting comes in lengths or as a long roll, with the individual LEDs mounted on flexible tape. It can be cut at certain intervals, which makes it very easy to fit into smaller spaces. This flexibility allows for an infinite number of applications, limited only by your creativity.

There are at least three different options when it comes to purchasing this lighting: Single colour in either warm white or cool white; colour changing RGB (red, green and blue) or single colour in a variety of different colours. While the white light is most useful for general household lighting, the colour options can add drama to an interior and can create fun lighting solutions for homes and businesses.

1. Under counter and under cabinet lighting in kitchens Any dark shadowy areas on kitchen work surfaces can be banished with the use of strip lighting attached underneath cabinets. The advantage of LED strips over fluorescent tubes is that they can be cut to exactly the right length, giving even, bright light the whole length of the counter. And of course LEDs are far more economical to run, using far less electricity.

2. Bookshelves and display shelves LED strip lighting solves the problem of lighting bookshelves and other display shelves. Short strips of LEDs can be cut to size, discreetly lighting each section with a warm glow.

3. Nooks and niches Curved nooks and niches can often be problematic from a lighting point of view, but with the flexible strips of LED lights, it is now easy to light individual and curved niches. Because the strips have such a slim profile it is also easy to conceal them in the recess, with no ugly tubes or bulbs to detract from the smooth line of the interior.

4. Bar Lighting Bar areas can be transformed with subtle LED strip lighting. Get glitzy with colour changing strips or go for subtle light accents of your prized collection of vintage bottles.

5. Desks and hobby areas Even lighting is a great help for desk areas, or workshops. Easy to install LED strips can be used to create just the right light for fine and detailed work exactly where you want it.

LED strip lighting is easy to install and need a transformer to adjust the voltage to LED requirements. Ask advice from your LED supplier to make sure you get the right components for the application you have in mind.

Recessed Lighting: Take Recess From Unsightly Light Fixtures With Stylish New Fittings for Your Home

Recessed lighting was first developed in the 1930s, but it's become very popular in recent years. It's easy to see why - recessed lights are sleek and stylish, they fit into any décor, and they never need to be dusted. If you're building a new home or addition, remodeling, or just looking for a change in your light fixtures, this is an option worth exploring.

Ceiling Fixtures

The average light fixture is attached to a ceiling (or sometimes a wall) and hangs down or protrudes. They're usually covered by decorative glass. Most people don't think too much about their lighting, but they have to dust it often, and there's always a chance of broken glass. And if the room is redecorated, the glass fixture may need to be replaced to fit in, adding to the cost of the décor. These problems are all eliminated with recessed lighting. A recessed light fixture is simple. The light bulb is enclosed in a canister-like housing and mounted inside the ceiling, flush with the outer surface. This gives the impression of a completely flat, clean ceiling, with light shining from a perfectly placed spot.

The exposed part of the housing can be trimmed in many different styles if desired. Recessed housings are made by a large number of manufacturers now, and a wide variety can be seen at a lighting or home improvement store. Recessed lighting is particularly popular for kitchens, because they require little or no cleaning and give a sleek, modern look to the room. Guests can focus their attention on the beautiful butcher-block island, rather than the dusty and greasy lighting. It's also popular for bathrooms. Special housings are available on the market to control brightness, diffusion, and directionality of the light, so it can be tailored to suit the specific needs of any space, from a reading nook to a poker table to a laundry room.

Under-Cabinet Lighting

A specific kind of recessed lighting is designed especially to be installed under cabinets or shelves. These are available as puck (spot) lights or as linear strips, and can easily be installed to light a work surface or display area. These are excellent for illuminating countertops in kitchens, work benches in garages, desks in offices, or any kind of display shelf or cabinet. They can even be installed inside a cabinet, making it easier to see the contents of your pantry or other storage area.

Many Different Varieties

Recessed lighting is available in incandescent, fluorescent, and LED varieties, which each have different characteristics. Incandescent lights are cheap, easy to find, and easy to maintain. However, they have short lives and use more energy than the others. Fluorescents have improved a lot in recent years - they provide excellent color and are highly efficient as well as having a very long life. Fluorescent fixtures are sometimes not easily concealed, though. Finally, LED lamps can last 10 years or more and are extremely energy-efficient. They are also the most expensive of the three varieties, and they generate heat which can limit their usefulness in recessed lighting.

There are four different categories of recessed light housings, according to UL requirements. There are two categories each for new construction and remodel styles, and each of them has an IC (insulation contact) and non-IC category. IC housings are to be used when there will be contact between the housing and any insulation, to prevent fire hazards. Non-IC housings must be at least 3 inches from insulation material. Usually, these categories will not impact your style choices at all, since only the trim of the housing is visible.

Recessed lighting is a great design choice for any room in your home, but like any remodeling task, great care should be used in installation. To prevent fire hazards and ensure that the wiring is safely done, a professional electrician or contractor should consult with you about placement of your new lights and do the installation. Your family will be able to enjoy the new lighting even more knowing that it's safe and secure.

A Guide For Choosing Chandeliers For Your Dining Room

When it comes to choosing lighting for the various rooms of your home, many people can forget that these fixtures do more than just provide adequate illumination for the space - in many cases, they form attractive features of the room and, as such, need to be aesthetically pleasing themselves. If you are in the process of choosing a chandelier for use in your dining room, it is important that you take the right steps in ensuring that you make the right choice.

One of the most important aspects of choosing a chandelier for a dining room is its proportion. You need to ensure that the fixture does not dominate the table beneath it nor that it fades into the background and becomes insignificant. The general rule of thumb is that the span of the chandelier should be 12 inches shorter than the table's width for it to not look out of place. Your starting point, then, should be in measuring the width and length of the dining table (or the diameter for a round one).

Another important aspect of choosing a chandelier for a dining room is where the fixture hangs. It should be placed over the centre of the dining table, ensuring that there is a 30 to a 33 inch gap between the surface and the bottom of the fixture to ensure adequate head space. If your table is not placed in the middle of the room, you may find it easier to place a hook in the ceiling above the centre of the table and run the chandelier's chain and wiring along the ceiling to it.

The next aspect that it is important to take into consideration is the globes that you choose for your chandelier. To ensure that your dining room is not illuminated like a Christmas tree, you should decrease the wattage of the globes according to the number of globes that you require. For example, if your chandelier has three or four sockets, you should be using globes that are around 40 watts.

And, finally, how easy your chandelier is to clean should be the final aspect taken into account when choosing one for your dining room. Extravagant crystal fixtures can be quite problematic when it comes to cleaning so, unless you have a spare day every 6 months or so, this is not going to be a good choice for you. For those who are time poor, a chandelier that only needs a quick dust or wipe down with a damp cloth every now and then is going to be perfect.

Pendant Lighting and The Different Types Available

Pendant lighting has become very popular recently. From kitchen islands, to restaurants bars and museums, pendants are seen everywhere these days, perhaps more than any other type of lighting. The simplicity of a single, downward facing light, hung from a single cord, chain or stem, is very visually appealing and attractive. Vivid multi-hued glass designs are often used, bringing a focal point of color to an otherwise uninspired room or space. And many styles are available, including mini pendants, bowl pendants, lantern pendants, drum pendants, and multi light pendants.

Mini pendants are usually less than 10 inches in width, with downward facing light. Very often these are designed with a modern look and style, using brightly colored glass shades. Mini pendants are perfect for use above kitchen counters, bars, dining tables, and other small seated areas. Often, multiple single mini pendants are hung in a series of 2-5 or more. This is a very common sight in modern restaurants and bars.

Bowl pendants are often hung as the focal point of a room, and can be used instead of a chandelier in kitchen and dining areas, entryways, etc. Bowl pendant lighting is usually softer than other pendant types, because the light is diffused through the much larger glass bowl. And because the bowl is open on the top of the fixture, it gives off up and down lighting. For this same reason, though, bowl pendants should always be hung higher than eye level to keep from looking directly into the open top. They are not recommended for area near staircases and balconies because of this.

Drum pendants are becoming a popular new style as well. They are used extensively in modern homes and contemporary business settings. Drum pendants are a short cylinder shaped "drum", usually covered in fabric or metal, closed on the bottom and top sides, and hung from a stem or cord.

Multi light pendants are usually simply a string of individual mini pendants, hung together from a single mount. They are especially ideal for use over coffee tables, pool tables, kitchen islands, and wetbars.

Finally, lantern pendants are commonly used in any foyer or entrance area. Consisting of glass panels set in a metal frame, these "lanterns" are usually chain hung and may match outdoor lanterns hung at the outside of the entrance.

Pendant lighting can update the look and feel of any space that is being modernized. With the many styles, types, and finishes currently available, you should easily be able to find the perfect match for your room!

What Kind Of Chandelier Works For Your Home?

There are many types of lighting that go into making a house look more like a home. You can add outdoor lighting to spotlight a landscaping fixture or to cast light on the side of your home. You can add lighting under the cupboards in your kitchen that shine down onto your counter tops for a beautiful effect as well. One of the most popular ways, though, that people dress up their houses and help make them look more like homes is by adding chandeliers.

Chandeliers most often belong in only two places within a home. The first place a chandelier belongs is in the entry way or foyer. This is especially true if you have vaulted ceilings at your entry way. Then the second place to hang a chandelier is in the dining area above the dining table. Sometimes that means there will be a third location with a chandelier if you have both a formal and an informal dining area.

There are multiple types of chandeliers that you can choose from, and you just need to decide what style is best for you and your personal taste and situation.

We will start by discussing chandeliers with lights that point up towards the ceiling. These types of chandeliers belong in locations like entry ways and foyers. This is because entry ways and foyers call for soft, indirect light which can be achieved by hanging a chandelier with upward facing lights which bounce their light off the ceiling and wall.

Next are chandeliers with downward facing light. These types of fixtures work best in places that require more direct light, such as dining areas. Indirect light does not work as well for these types of areas because you need to be able to see the details of your food as you eat and engage in other social activities in the dining area.

There are also single and multi-tier chandeliers that you can choose from. More often than not you see multi-tier fixtures being used in entry ways and foyers, while single-tier chandeliers are usually being used in both formal and informal dining rooms. The reason for this is that usually entry way chandeliers are much further away from people as they enter and walk through your home, so the fixtures can be larger and can act as more of a decoration. Dining chandeliers, on the other hand, are very close to the occupants of your home, so you do not want something too large and ornamental hanging right next to their faces.

These rules are common guidelines, but are in no way necessary to follow. People interchange these guidelines often and end up with beautiful, stylish looking homes. So take this advice, but use your own judgement for what will look best in your home.

The Basics of Art Deco Lamps

In the period between World War I and World War II the occurred a fantastic explosion in the creative arts. One of the most enduring styles of this era is the Art Deco Style. It was elegant and often futuristic but not nearly as kitschy as later modern styles. As such, it can often be blended quite seamlessly into decorating schemes where it ads a dash of modernity to any setting.

Art Deco Lamp Styles

Drawing from the Art Noveue, Futurist, Arts and Crafts, and many other elements, Art Deco exhibits a wide range of influences. Art Deco lamps are no exception. They come is a great variety of shapes. Two of the most common, however, are what I call the "raygun gothic" and the "elegant lady" motifs.

"Raygun gothic" is a contemporary term that denotes the futuristic stylings of the 30s and 40s. Think Buck Rogers space ships, streamlined locomotives, and curvaceous automobiles. These lamps are often made of chrome and have an almost science fiction look to them.

"Elegant Lady" is a term of my own making and it refers to the very common deco practice of making lamps in the shapes of dramatically and elegantly poised women. I would lump into this category lamps which have a similar style but feature graceful animals like cats or gazelles.

In both cases you'll find certain Art Deco conventions are commonly used. They are:

Modernist design Bold contrasting colors (chrome and black were particularly popular) Ethnic elements (especially egyptian and native american) Use of new (for the era) materials like aluminum and plastics.

Types

By the 1930 most of today's lamp forms were being used. You had table lamps, desk lamps, torchiere lamps, as well and many types of lights designed to be built into walls or other structures. Actually, many of these forms arose in the period as the use of electricity became the norm. If you traveled back to 1910 you'd probably find a great many such forms absent or rendered as oil lamps.

Important Warning About Wiring

If you are purchasing a vintage art deco lamp it is highly advisable you have it checked out before use. The wiring used in the 1930s and 40s was far less safe than it's modern counterpart. If your lamp has never been rewired it could present a real fire hazard. gest you have it replaced.

Modern Options

Fortunately Art Deco has never really gone out of style. It may not be at the forefront of fashion anymore but it remains an enduring favorite that can be integrated with a great many other styles. Because of this there are still a great many new lamps made in the style. Some are reproductions but many are totally new takes on the Art Deco style. Modern lamps will lack the historical cache and probably the resale value of antiques but they can prove less expensive and temperamental. I suggest you explore both options to see what will work for your home.

How To Make Shopping For Barn Lighting Easy

Whether you sell barn lighting, you have tons of experience shopping for barn lighting, or no experience at all, everyone is always looking for a way to make it easier. Simplicity and convenience is key in today's society, especially when it comes to saving money. So it should be no surprise to you that when looking for a way to purchase vintage barn lights, simpler proves to be better.

There are quite a few ways to simplify the process of purchasing barn lighting, but we will focus on three ways; providing an online marketplace, providing a wide range of colors to choose from, and bundling needed parts for installation into one simple purchase.

Over time, convenience in shopping has built up the popularity of online shopping. How can you beat the image of staying home, researching products online, and deciding at home which product to go with? The experience really is quite convenient. Instead of having to plan a trip down to a lighting store where you may or may not find the piece of inventory that you are looking for, you can just sit on your couch, perouse the Internet, and purchase your desired product with ease.

More important than convenience, though, is style. Vintage barn lighting is all about bringing a specific style to the location that you are placing the fixture into. In order to match the style of that location, one must choose a color that will be complimentary for the surroundings of the new fixture. To simplify the purchasing of a vintage barn light, the seller needs to provide a wide range of color options for the buyer to choose from.

Finally, bundling brings simplicity to shopping. Instead of trying to find a lighting fixture, the gooseneck to hold it up, the socket, and the mounting plate all separately, companies can bundle these items into lighting kits that make it easy for customers to get everything they need for an easy installation.

So whether you sell vintage barn lights, you are excited to purchase vintage barn lights, or even if you are just dreading the idea of shopping for these products, these tips can assist you. If a store has products available for purchase online, provides variety in color to match any style, and bundles necessary pieces together into one package, then customers are going to be happy. Simplicity and convenience yields positive feelings from all parties involved.

Choosing the Right Replacement Light Bulb for Your Needs

When planning a new lighting layout for your home, it is important to take many different factors into account. Besides simply how bright you want the area to be lit, a savvy homeowner must include other factors such as indoor/outdoor lighting, lumens, wattage, and even environmental impact to choose the correct methods and techniques for your lighting design.

When it comes down to it, it's all about the bulbs. The bulbs that you choose for your lighting design will have an immense impact on the sustainability and effectiveness of your lighting. There are three major types of replacement light bulbs; incandescent, fluorescent, and LED. The following is a quick rundown of how each bulb type can be utilized to light your home.

Incandescent Incandescent bulbs are what many people think of when they imagine a basic, residential indoor lighting bulb. The light is generated from heating a filament wire to high temperatures. Typically, incandescent bulbs last fairly long, but the problem with them is that they are costly in the long run. Incandescent bulbs require around 60 watts of electricity to produce light, making it exceptionally expensive when stretched over time. This is far more than any of the other modern options, although an incandescent bulb contains no mercury and is RoHS compliant.

Finally, the biggest downside to an incandescent replacement light bulb is its carbon footprint. Incandescent bulbs typically release around 150 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, far more than any other bulb allows.

Fluorescent A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is a great replacement light bulb to phase out incandescent. Typically of a similar (or even cheaper) price, CFLs are great for lighting systems that need to save cost without a heavy investment. CFLs use about a quarter of the energy consumed by an incandescent bulb in the long run, and are just as bright for about a third of the cost.

This is not without some hazards however. CFLs contain mercury, which is hazardous to the environment. Though CFLs emit far less carbon dioxide each year compared to incandescent, they must be disposed of responsibly through a special program. Also, CFLs are more sensitive to temperature and weather conditions. They become a heat and fire hazard if in extreme temperatures for too long; so keep that in mind when considering outdoor lighting or landscape lighting use.

LED Light-emitting diodes (LED) are special bulbs that use a cluster of smaller LED chips to emit waves and color characteristics. LED lighting beats out the competition in just about every sense. They are highly durable, require a tenth of the wattage that incandescent bulbs need, and emit almost zero btu's of heat while they work. LED lights are environmentally sound, contain no mercury or other harmful materials, and release only about 15 pounds of CO2 a year.

The only downside of LED lights is that they are expensive at first. LED replacement lights involve a considerable investment that essentially updates your entire lighting system. Once the installations are implemented, however, price drops to costing fractions of what other lighting systems cost in energy usage, per year.

Choosing Outdoor Lights For The Decoration Of Your Home

There are many reasons that lead homeowners to want to decorate the outside of their homes with outdoor lights, including a celebration (such as a birthday), a holiday (such as Christmas), or the family's love of entertaining. By choosing some attractive and appropriate lights for installation somewhere outside your home, you could really make a statement that your visitors will be talking about when they leave.

The decorative outdoor lights that you ultimately choose will fall into one of four categories:

Traditional - These lights require the least amount of effort, as they can be put up whenever you want to use them and taken down when you don't plan on entertaining. Often, homeowners choose to use their old Christmas lights (which includes globes, mini fixtures and icicles), as they add a certain festive flair to any outdoor space. LED - Many homeowners like LED outdoor lights because they are almost as effortless as the traditional kind. They are also much smaller than other types of fixtures (meaning that they blend into the landscape very well) and they don't produce very much heat (meaning that they are safe and have a lower risk of fire). Specialty - Lights that are considered 'specialty' are ones that add a unique perspective to the outside of your home and make their own decorative statement. Some of these fixtures include net lighting (which are thrown over a bush or tree), teardrops (which are often hung from the eaves of your home), and even shaped lighting. Other - These sorts of outdoor lights are often known as lawn art, and they are fast growing in popularity around the world. They are available in a number of shapes (such as animals) and are simply laid out on your grass in your desired location. A timer can even control the way that the globes turn on, making them appear as if they're moving.

When it comes to choosing which outdoor lights you would like to install on the outside of your home, it is important that you carefully consider the fixtures in each of the above categories. Do you want lights that you can put up and take down as you wish, or ones that can be left on for extended periods of time without posing a safety risk? Do you want some interesting fixtures that illuminate certain areas of your yard, or ones that you can lay out on the grass?

A Closer Look At Downlights And Their Uses In The Home

Whilst you may not be familiar with the term 'downlights', it's likely that you have seen them before - you may even have them in your home and have no idea that this is what they're called. You know those little circular fixtures that sit flush with the ceiling? Those are downlights. The usefulness of these fixtures has meant that a number of areas in our homes can benefit from their installation, so it is unlikely that they will drop out of popularity any time soon.

Downlights have, however, come a long way since their original inception. They were once standard screw in fixtures that were fitted with floodlight globes, which caused them to be highly inefficient due to exorbitant electricity and replacement globe costs. This eventually led to the creation of new, more energy efficient downlights.

There are currently two types of downlights in existence that are suitable for most applications around the home:

Mains fixtures are used when more light is required in the space and, as such, they operate at a higher voltage (which causes them to generate a considerable amount of heat). Whilst they are less expensive to initially install, it does cost a little bit more to replace the globes. Low voltage (LV) fixtures are often paired with a transformer to help disperse some of the heat created. They are also commonly fitted with dimmer switches to allow further control of the illumination.

There are a number of conventional and unusual applications for downlights in our homes, including:

The bulbs used in downlights have also changed dramatically over time. The original halogen globes are known to create considerable carbon emissions and to need replacing quite frequently, which led to a lot of homeowners calling out for another solution. As a result, there are now a number of other downlight globes on the market, including: energy efficient 12V halogen globes, LED globes and CFL fluorescent globes. These all last much longer than the original type and use considerably less energy.

Showers: these fixtures are installed a few inches above the ceiling with a mirrored glass or die cast surface that sits flush with the ceiling to protect the wiring from steam and water spray. Accent: these fixtures are used to illuminate paintings and other artistic pieces that look best when displayed in direct light. The use of downlights separates these pieces from the rest of the room. Which Energy Saving Lighting Globes Save The Most Money?

As a large part of our electricity bills is the result of lighting our homes, many homeowners are looking for ways that they can reduce these costs and bring down their bills. One of the best ways to do this (short of not using lights in your home) is to switch over to energy saving lighting. Over the years, however, there have been a number of supposedly energy efficient globes released onto the market; the hard part now is trying to determine which one is going to save you the most money.

(Halogen) Incandescent Globes

The lights that we have been using in our homes for the last 130 years are known as incandescent globes, and they are as inefficient as they come. Even though they have a lifetime of somewhere between 700 and 1,000 hours (which is pretty substantial when you look at it), around 90% of the energy that they produce is heat - not light. Earlier this year, however, it become mandatory for companies producing incandescent lighting to make the globes 25-30% more energy efficient than their original counterparts - these are known as halogen incandescent globes.

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs)

These globes are known for being reasonably small in size and produce a fairly warm illumination. They are much more efficient than incandescent lighting, lasting somewhere between 7,500 and 10,000 hours. This type of energy saving lighting is, unfortunately, considerably more expensive than the incandescent type. The good news, however, is that they use around 75% less energy, so will begin paying for themselves in no time (especially as they don't need to be replaced as often).

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)

This is the newest energy efficient globe on the market and is known for offering a number of other benefits to homeowners, including being free of poisonous mercury and being extremely solid. They have the longest lifespan of all globes, lasting about 50,000 hours. Again, this lighting is considerably more expensive than both incandescent globes and CFLs, but they require 75-80% less energy, so will begin paying for themselves very quickly. It is hoped that their initial cost will begin to drop very soon, too.

If you are looking for the energy efficient lighting that will save you the most money on your electricity bills, you should definitely be investing in some LED globes. If you are a bit wary of the cost of these globes and installation, you could also go down the CFL route. Incandescent globes, even the new halogen models, should be avoided at all costs due to their inefficiency on all levels.

Solar Garden Lights - What You Should Consider

As we become more energy conscious and thoughtful of using renewable energy things like solar garden lights are becoming increasingly popular. This type of outdoor lighting provides an environmentally friendly yet effective way to illuminate your gardens and other landscaped areas of your yard.

Due to the increased popularity it is now easier to find a wide variety of solar lights, both in the form of different types of fixtures and different styles. Before you commit to a particular type it is helpful to know a little about them and how they are used first. This can help you make an informed decision and provide greater satisfaction with your purchase.

Consider The Climate

First and foremost it is important to determine if solar garden lights are a good fit for your area. While most don't need to be exposed to direct sunlight all day in order to charge, they will collect and store power more efficiently if they are installed in sunny areas.

They will still charge on cloudy or partly cloudy days, however not as fully or quickly. Place them in sunny areas whenever possible, or consider choosing solar lights that connect to a single solar panel that you can place in a sunny location, like the roof.

Define Your Needs

Are you looking for outdoor lighting for aesthetic purpose or for practical reasons? Often times it may be a mix of both of these reasons. If this is the case you may want to mix a few different types of lights to get the full desired effect.

Those made for looks may provide a warmer glow that isn't as bright. They will come in a variety of decorative styles as well.

Those made for practical reasons like lighting stairs or for security lighting may look a bit more utilitarian. They are often brighter as well.

Decorative or Practical?

Decorative landscape lights are often used to highlight specific landscaped areas, plants, trees, a gazebo or water structure in the yard. Sometimes colored lights are used to create a distinct look.

Practical outdoor lighting is used to illuminate paths, entryways or as security. When used for security brighter lights are often used, however with pathways sometimes a more attractive warm glow is effective and more appealing.

Whatever you exact reason for choosing them solar garden lights can make a great addition to your yard when chosen and installed with a clear and distinct design in mind.

Weighing on the Importance of LED Street Lighting

The lights on the street play a vital role especially for motorists during night time. It allows a smooth flow of vehicle traffic and prevents any untoward accidents like car collisions and robberies. Businesses involved with producing these lights are receiving a high demand for their items. During the 1990's, they used volatile compounds like mercury in their bulbs.

But these kinds of fixtures are not cost-friendly since they require a considerable amount of electricity to function. After conducting numerous researches and trials to look for a good alternative, scientists in the United States have developed LED street lighting.

This variation needs only a smaller amount of electricity compared with lights powered by mercury and other chemicals. They also produce brighter light and have a longer life span. These outstanding characteristics convinced city officials not only in the US but in different countries all over the world to gradually change the traditional light fittings.

Challenges

At first, manufacturers have found it difficult to produce high class LED's and were dumbfounded on how they can replace the old lights. But technology evolved over time and nowadays, big metropolises like Washington, London and Paris are using this type of lighting frameworks.

This set-up is cost-friendly and enhances the overall aesthetics of the lamp. This variation used in roads is a good model of consolidated lights. It means that the bulbs are encased inside a shock resistant panel. The cluster is also connected to a temperature sink used to regulate the warmth produce by the object.

Typically, manufacturers use one maximum-powered bulb to produce such object but there are businesses using minimum-powered bulbs to recreate similar result. A standard lamp used in the street has a reflector located at the back of the incandescent bulb. This set-up affects the radiance of the bulb and produces unnecessary phosphorescent pollution.

The illumination made by this type is also harmful to motorists. The LED variation has a lens on their sturdy panel that prevents any deficiency on the glow that it gives out in a rectangular shape. It does not distract a person traveling on the road even during late at night.

Electrical Consumption

The most important advantage of LED street lighting compared with standard lighting is the small amount of energy it needs to function properly. Mercury bulbs need 35 (lm) to work while LEDs need 100 (lm). They are also friendly to the environment since they do produce any emissions because of their compact state. The can also last for thousands of hours.

As a society we have become quite aware of being environmentally friendly and reducing our carbon foot print, and this has been a gradual process. A few decades ago, people were not so aware of the environment and how to protect it, but in more recent years, as a nation we have become much more aware of conserving energy. By creating more energy efficient means of living, we can work to keep the world a better place.

There are many ways in which we can work to be more environmentally friendly including recycling and reducing our household waste, reducing pollution by walking and cycling rather than using the car, and by using public transport, and also by using more energy efficient electrical appliances. We all use more electricity than we most likely realise, just by using our everyday facilities such as the dishwasher, hairdryer, washing machine, central heating, and even just by lighting our houses.

The average family household uses 50 kilowatts of electricity a day. There are a number of ways in which you and your family can cut this down including the use of energy efficient lighting. LED lighting is a very energy efficient form of lighting. An LED lightbulb, if left on continuously will last for 11 years! Also, your average light bulb loses a lot of energy through loss of heat, whereas LED lighting only loses 20% of its energy through heat loss.

LED lighting is perfect for both commercial and home use. The small flat shape of the lights themselves means they are very easily fitted into areas which could normally be difficult to get to. LED lights are available in a number of sizes and designs, such as strip lights, overhead t bar lights, corner lights, movable spotlights and many more.

Overhead lights are ideal for bathroom use, placed over a mirror, or a cupboard. Strip lights are often fitted under kitchen cupboards, to light up the surface below, and corner lights are often used as cupboard lighting. All these types of lighting are often tricky to reach and therefore a bit of a hassle to change. By installing LED lighting instead of regular lighting, you will very rarely need to change the light fittings.

LED wholesale lighting has also become more popular because it gives a greater intensity of light, which is clear and bright, making it ideal for use in kitchens and bathrooms.
